If I

If I were a dog

I would pull my ears back and cuddle up close to you

If I were a horse

I would trot proudly towards you, bow my long neck

and let you stroke my shiny mane

If only I were a leopard

I’d run through a thousands savannas to bring back my preys

to you

And if I were a feline

I’d close my eyes quietly as I lick you as my own young

If I were not what I am

but a fish, in a bowl

I would bang my head against the glass

to kiss you

But I was born human,

an animal force roars up inside me making a tangle of trapped emotions

and I wish I could speak

to say

I love you
